Happy spring equinox! Spring brings the joy of winter’s passing, birds twitterpating, flowers blooming, and seems like the perfect time to begin something new. I’ve had a photography portfolio for about a decade now. I’ve been decent at updating new photographs consistently, usually after returning home from a vacation that inspired me. Almost three years ago I started a blog for that website and…well…I haven’t exactly kept pace with it. My goal had been one post per month. Not too difficult, right? But for me it has been. Not only that, but my love for photography goes hand in hand with traveling which has been halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, no new photographs for over a year.
So it is with no small amount of trepidation that I created this website for my writing work. The key to having any success with a website is SEO which means, if you don’t want to be on the 20th search page results, then you must update often, plug links, and post on social media. I have serious struggles with this and question the validity to the point that I fear at age 31, I am becoming a luddite old woman. But still! I shall press on. What does one write about for a writing blog? From my first pass on DuckDuckGo search engine (limiting my use of Google) I came across this article that provided “the best” examples of other author websites as well as tips on what to include on that website and blog. It says that my blog should be helping my readers get to know my personality and process. That’s where I’ll start. I think this time I will set my goal to a quarterly update, taken from my friend Ellen Rozek. Four times a year should be more than manageable. And to further prove my determination in sticking to my goal, I’ve even posted two new posts (hot damn!) on my photography website!
Here are some ideas I’ve brainstormed in the last hour for upcoming posts aside from a quarterly update:
- Social Media Monster
- 2021 Book List
- My Process of Creativity
- Musical Inspiration
- Mental Health of a Writer
- #NaNoWriMo
- 2021 End Year Book Summary
- 2021 End Year Reflection
If there is any subject in particular that you would like me to write about, feel free to shoot me a message or comment below. We’ll see how this goes.
